MILLERSVILLE – The 11th-ranked East Stroudsburg University baseball team settled for a series split with sixth-ranked Millersville as the Warriors dropped the final two games on Sunday afternoon, 2-1 & 5-0, at Cooper Park.
ESU dropped to 30-6 overall, 18-2 in the conference and saw its program-record 18-game PSAC win streak come to an end. The Marauders, who drew back within one game of the Warriors for the No. 1 spot in the PSAC East standings, improved 31-7 on the season and 17-3 in the league.
Batting Notables
- Offensively the Warriors were limited to one run on nine hits across the doubleheader
- Parker Frey (1-for-3) drove in the Warriors lone run in the opener with his team-high fifth home run of the season
- Mike Kelly went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in the game one, while Jack Rothenhausler, Chaise Albus and Jeremy Piatkiewicz each recorded a hit
- In the series finale, Shanley Wall, Kelly and Rothenhausler notched the only base hits for ESU
Pitching Notables
- Freshman Gavin Sopko (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season loss despite allowing only two runs on three hits across 4.0 innings pitched
- Fellow classmate Carson Renner pitched 2.0 innings in relief and struck out a pair in today's opener
- In the series finale, freshman Peyton Brannock (3-1) was saddled with the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits in 2.0 innings of work
- Jake Albert, Caden Parker, Johansel Brito and Greg Wiley each pitched an inning out of the bullpen
How it Happened – Millersville 2, ESU 1
ESU grabbed a 1-0 lead over Millersville in the top of the third inning as Frey delivered a two-out solo home run to right field.
Millersville took advantage of a leadoff walk in the bottom of the third inning as Hunter Stevens followed with a two-run home run to right field to put the Marauders ahead 2-1.
How it Happened – Millersville 5, ESU 0
The Marauders carried over momentum into the series finale as Matt Williams and Sam Morris recorded RBI singles in the bottom of the first inning to give them a 2-0 lead.
Millersville scratched across another run in the home half of the third inning as Jeff Sabater led off with a single and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt before coming around to make the score 3-0 on an RBI single from Cole Houser.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Marauders increased their lead to 5-0 on a solo home run from Morris and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sabater.
