KALISPELL, Mont. — Former ESU second baseman
Walker Zampella will continue his baseball career, signing with the Glacier Range Riders, an independent baseball team of the Pioneer League.
The Range Riders are in the midst of their sixth season in the Pioneer League, which was granted status as an MLB Partner League. Glacier is currently 19-14 over a month into their season, which runs through September. The Range Riders have had 13 players sign contracts with MLB teams since their inception, including four players this year.
Zampella joins Glacier after three seasons in the Poconos, where he posted a slash line of .308/.412/.454. Zampella started in all three seasons with ESU and enjoyed a career year in 2026, recording personal bests in batting average, OBP, SLG%, hits, extra-base hits, walks, and fewest strikeouts. At second base, Zampella totaled 250 putouts and 331 assists, finishing with a .967 career fielding percentage. Career-wise, he finished with the fifth-most stolen bases, 64, and the eighth-most assists in program history.
The Edison, N.J. native built on his 2025 All-PSAC East Second Team season in his final year with the Warriors, jumping up to the division's First Team. Additionally, he was an All-Atlantic Region First Team selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association, Division II Conference Commissioners Association, and the National College Baseball Writers of America Association.
Zampella will join Jeremy Piatkiewicz '24 and Tom Reisinger '23 as one of three ESU alums in the Pioneer League, who both play for the Missoula Paddleheads. Those two teams are slated to next face off for a three-game series beginning July 14. The Glacier Range Riders' games can be streamed for free with live video and audio broadcasts through
