Women’s Track & Field Wins Two Events at Shippensburg’s Mid-Week Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team got wins from the 4x400m relay squad and junior Samiyah Little (hammer) at Shippensburg's Mid-Week Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Seth Grove Stadium.  

Add PSAC automatic qualifying times and marks for the Warriors was Makayla Smith (100m hurdles), Heather Gaughran (pole vault) in their respective events.

Running Highlights

ESU captured the title in the 4x400m relay as the combination of Aaliyah Cancel, Chloe Domurat, Destiny Thompson and Anna Roth clocked a season-best time of 4:06.60.

Thompson paced a quartet of Warriors in the 100m as the graduate student finished as the runner-up with a personal-best time of 12.02, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. Also competing for ESU was Domurat (13th – 12.71), Alyssa Vogt (18th – 12.99) and LeAnn Grier (23rd – 13.48).

Thompson returned with a second place finish in the 200m as she crossed the line in 25.21, while Ariel Kyle rounded out the top-10 with a time of 26.52.

On her way to a fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles, Smith clocked a personal-best and PSAC automatic qualifying time of 15.14. With her performance, Smith moved up to seventh all-time in the school record books.

In the 400m, Roth recorded a 16th place finish after running a season-best time of 1:04.85.

Field Highlights

Little captured the hammer throw title for the second time this outdoor season as the junior claimed first place at today's meet with a throw of 5-.83m (165-3). Also competing for the Warriors was Sarah Roth (35.84m – 117-7), Bailey Grassman (35.82m – 117-6) and Trinty Lucas (31.33m – 102-9) as trio finished 15th, 17th and 28th place respectively.

Seniors Nickolina Annelli and Gaughran finished in a tie for second place in the pole vault as the duo each cleared the bar at 3.45m (11-3 ¾) on their first attempts.

On her way to a runner-up finish in the javelin, Olivia Sforza posted a mark of 38.21m (125-4) on her second throw.

In the triple jump, senior Kamya Edmonds finished fourth after recording a season-best mark of 10.82m (35-6).

Freshman Samantha Rosado finished just outside the top-10 in the long jump in 11th place with a mark of 4.98m (16-4 ¼) and Edmonds took 13th in the high jump at 1.40m (4-7).

A busy stretch for ESU continues on Friday as the Warriors host the 18th Annual All-American Meet at Eiler-Martin Stadium with events beginning at 11:30 a.m.
