WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Despite holding a 7-5 lead in the third quarter, the No. 11/15 East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team could not prevent a late 8-2 scoring run by No. 2/1 West Chester, falling to the Golden Rams, 13-9, on Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
With the loss, the Warriors drop to 9-5, 5-3 in the PSAC East. The Golden Rams (14-0, 9-0 PSAC East) remain unbeaten with the victory.
Notables
- Hannah Schiemer paced the offense with three goals, while Julianna Callison and Sophia Graffeo each added a pair.
- Paige Moreland added a goal and an assist for two points, while Courtney Reynolds also found the back of the cage.
- Emily Mitarotonda tallied an assist. Mitarotonda was held without a goal for the first time in her career (71 games), but has now posted at least one point in all 72 games she has appeared in as a Warrior. The Rockaway, N.J. native shined defensively however, registering five caused turnover and earned 11 draw controls, just one shy of matching her career-high in both categories. She also scooped four ground balls.
- GK Abby Simonetti made four saves in net.
- WCU's Hannah Stanislawczyk led the game with six goals and eight points.
- WCU GK Jessica Gorr posted 11 saves.
- ESU led the game in shots on goal (20-17) and draw controls (15-10).

Emily Mitarotonda and Hannah Stanislawczyk, among the best to play for their respective programs, the PSAC and NCAA DII. Mitarotonda ranks second all-time in PSAC history and fifth in NCAA DII history with 283 goals, while Stanislawczyk has totaled 272, which ranks third in the conference and is ninth in NCAA DII history. How It Happened
- The Warriors started strong, with Schiemer tallying the first two goals of the contest to lift the Warriors to a 2-0 edge. Amanda Wolfe scored WCU's first goal with 8:12 remaining in the opening quarter, before Schiemer completed her first-quarter hat trick to retake a two-goal lead at 3-1. The Golden Rams' Kendall Fortune scored a woman-up goal to wrap up the first quarter, with ESU leading 3-2.
- Callison opened the scoring in the second frame, as ESU grabbed another two-goal advantage at 4-2. The Golden Rams closed the first half on a 3-0 run, but the Warriors led 5-4 after 30 minutes of action.
- After halftime, the Warriors retook momentum with three consecutive goals. Graffeo scored her two goals and Callison added her second goal of the contest, as ESU led 7-5 with 10:30 remaining in the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Warriors, WCU used a 5-0 run, with all five goals coming from Stanislawczyk to retake the lead at 10-7 early in the fourth quarter.
- Moreland ended the WCU run with a woman-down goal to slice the deficit to just two at 10-8, but that's as close as the Warriors could get down the stretch. The Golden Rams closed the game with a 3-1 sprint to earn the 13-9 victory.
