Men’s Track & Field Wins Three Events at Covert Classic

BETHLEHEM – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team won three events at Lehigh's Covert Classic on Saturday at the Goodman Track & Field Complex.

Sophomore Anthony Voto took first place in both the shot put and hammer throw while freshman Ragiariki Lewis captured the 400m hurdles title.

Running Highlights

In the 110m hurdles, Lewis earned a runner-up finish after crossing the line in 15.10. Lewis returned to the track for the 400m hurdles where he captured the title with a personal-best time of 55.83.

Jaylen Morrison paced four Warriors in the 400m with a runner-up finish after crossing the line in a season-best 50.00, while Trey Boyd (51.77) followed in sixth, Caleb Diaz (52.41) in 11th and Evan Clark (52.95) in 15th.

A quartet of Warriors finished inside the top-10 of the 100m led by Bryson Gilchrist (10.98) as the runner-up, Justin Gockley (11.17) in fourth, Ben Terry (11.41) in eighth and Zandray Thompson (11.59) in 10th place.  

In the 800m, freshman Tim Gale captured a third place finish after crossing the line in 1:54.91.  

Clark posted an eighth place finish in the 200m with a time of 23.45 and Terry was not far behind in 11th place at 23.82.

Freshman Lucas Thaler claimed a 12th place finish in the 1500m with a personal-best time of 4:09.53.

Field Highlights

Anthony Voto captured yesterday's title in the hammer throw as the sophomore recorded a NCAA provisional and personal-best mark of 58.45m (192-1), which ranks third all-time in the ESU record books.

Voto returned to the throws area this morning to capture a first place finish in the shot put as he recorded a mark of 16.30m (53-5 ¾), while Will Mattei Jr. (13.92m – 45-8) and Isaac Almoney (13.57m – 44-6 ¼) took eighth and 10th place respectively.

The Warriors recorded a trio of top-10 finishes in the discus led by Voto as the runner-up with a throw of 47.76m (156-8), followed by Almoney in sixth place at 44.18m (144-11) and Joshua Meshach in ninth at 41.9mm (137-9).

In yesterday's javelin, junior Zach Nissley notched a third place finish with a season-best throw of 60.53m (198-7) and freshman Jace Hersh took eighth at a personal-best 49.17m (161-4).  

Carlton Wise claimed a sixth place finish in the pole vault as the freshman cleared the bar at 4.10m (13-5 ¼) on his first attempt.

In the long jump, Gilchrist finished as the runner-up after leaping 6.45m (21-2) and fellow classmate Nasir Heard took ninth with a mark of 6.00m (19-8 ¼).
