No. 15 ESU Sweeps Lock Haven on Senior Day to Move into First Place

STROUDSBURG – Behind impressive pitching performances that combined to allow just two runs along with four home runs, the 15th-ranked East Stroudsburg University softball team collected its fifth and sixth wins over the past seven games with a 10-2, 1-0 sweep of Lock Haven on Saturday at Creekview Park's Vigon International Field.

With the senior day wins, the Warriors improved to 27-7, 9-3 in the PSAC East. The Bald Eagles fall to 7-17, 3-9 in conference contests.

Pitching Notables
  • The pitching staff of Paige Zigmund (W, 13-3), Sarah Davenport (W, 13-3) and Abbie Landrum combined to allow just two earned runs in the contest, holding the Bald Eagles to a .273 batting average. The trio allowed just two extra-base hits and combined for 23 strikeouts.
  • Zigmund allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out 11 in six innings of work. She did not issue a walk.
  • Landrum tossed two scoreless innings to start game two, allowing just a single. Davenport finished off the remaining five innings, firing 11 strikeouts to pick up her 13th win. She conceded two walks and did not allow an extra-base hit.
Batting Notables
  • Abigail Weirich went 4-for-6 with a home run and a triple, scoring three runs on the day while producing two. She also drew a walk to finish the day with a .714 on-base percentage.
  • Taylor Lipkins hit a home run in each contest, with an inside-the-park home run in game one, while connecting on one over the fence in game two. She scored three runs and drove in three.
  • Shannon Edelman (2-6) and Reilly Vicendese (2-7) each drove in a pair of runs, while Katie Master (2-5) also registered an RBI with a solo home run.
  • Delaney Ridgell (2-5) also smacked multiple hits.
How It Happened – Game 1
  • ESU took momentum early, as Weirich belted her fourth home run of the season to lift ESU to a 1-0 lead.
  • The Warriors extended its lead to 3-0 in its next at-bats, with Lipkins smacking an inside-the-park home run, which also scored Master.
  • In the bottom of the 3rd, ESU took a 5-0 lead, with an Edelman RBI double and a Shaw-Tait RBI infield-single.
  • Master led off the bottom of the 4th with a solo home run, as ESU grabbed a 2-0 lead.
  • Zigmund's shutout bid ended in the top of the 6th. After allowing back-to-back singles to open the inning, she forced a flyout and struck out the next batter. With two outs, Hailey Lestician drove both runners home with an RBI double.
  • The Warriors ended the game early with three runs in the bottom of the 6th. Vicendese registerd an RBI single, Weirich drove Vicendese home with an RBI triple, as Edelman used a sacrifice fly to score Weirich to reach the eight-run rule.
How It Happened – Game 2
  • Lipkins whacked a solo home run over the fence as ESU's first batter in the bottom of the 1st, which accounted for the lone run in game two.
  • Landrum and Davenport combined to strand 12 runners on base, scattering eight hits throughout game two.
  • Davenport bases loaded jams with no outs in the third and 7th innings to pick up the win.

  • It's a quick turnaround, with ESU taking on Mansfield on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Creekview Park's Vigon International Field.
