Women’s Track & Field Places Second at Millersville Metrics

MILLERSVILLE – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team earned a second place finish at the Millersville Metrics on Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium as the Warriors totaled 81.5 points.

Destiny Thompson highlighted the day for ESU as the graduate student captured first place finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes. Thompson (100m) and Olivia Sforza (javelin) also notched PSAC automatic qualifying marks in their respective events.

Yesterday, junior Samiyah Little posted an NCAA provisional and personal-best mark of 53.72m in the hammer throw.

Running Highlights

Thompson's successful day on the track started with a first place finish in the 100m as she ran a PSAC automatic qualifying time of 12.45.

In the 200m, Thompson paced a handful of Warriors as the graduate student won her second event of the day with a time of 25.68 in Heat 8.

In the 400m, freshman Aliyah Cancel notched a fourth place finish after crossing the line in 1:01.32.

ESU posted a trio of top-12 finishes in the 800m, led by freshman Carla Bautista in fifth with a time of 2:26.38, while fellow classmates Hannah Skelly (2:28.33) and Gabriela Orama (2:30.15) took eighth and 12th place respectively.  

In the 1500m, graduate student Holly Chambers claimed a fifth place finish after running a time of 5:02.24, while Kelly Martin took 11th at 5:13.36.

In the 3000m steeplechase, freshman Alycia Smith captured a sixth place finish after clocking a time of 12:38.19.

The Warriors captured a fifth place in the 4x400m as the quartet of Bautista, Chambers, Kiera Wimbush and Carolina Kaczmarek combined to clock a time of 4:24.26.

In yesterday's 5000m, sophomore Megan Elgrim paced a trio of Warriors in third place with a time of 19:17.47, while freshman Mia Sisilli followed in fourth at 19:48.28. Junior Jada Williams rounded out the finishes in 12th after crossing the line in 21:47.13.

Field Highlights

On her way to a runner-up finish in yesterday's hammer throw, Little recorded an NCAA provisional and personal-best mark of 53.72m to remain second all-time in the record books. Little continued to inch closer to the school record throw of 180-10, currently held by fellow teammate Elizabeth Makar since 2022. Also competing in the event for the Warriors was Sarah Roth (13th – 37.26m) and Trinity Lucas (27th – 30.16m).

Kamya Edmonds captured a runner-up finish in the triple jump as the senior recorded a mark of 10.77m. In the high jump, Edmonds finished in a tie for third as she cleared the bar at 1.45m (4-9).

In the javelin, Sforza took fourth place overall after notching a PSAC automatics qualifying mark of 40.39m.

Nickolina Annelli paced a quartet of Warriors in the pole vault as the senior cleared 3.30m to finish fifth, while Heather Gaughran and Reese Ruggerio eclipsed 3.15m to take 11th and 13th respectively.

Anna Roth finished just outside the top-10 in the long jump as freshman leaped 4.43m to come in 11th place.
