SHIPPENSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team competed on day two of the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium.
Through seven events, the Warriors are seventh in the team standings with 14 points while Shippensburg leads the way by half a point over Millersville with 47.5 points.
Heptathlon Highlights
Elyssa Pemu moved up one spot in the heptathlon to ultimately finish in ninth place after accumulating a personal-best 4047 points, which ranks 10th best all-time in program history.
Back for day two, Pemu opened with a seventh place finish in the long jump after leaping 4.74m (15-6 ¾) on her final attempt.
Pemu followed with a ninth place finish in the javelin after recording a mark of 25.20m (82-8) and wrapped up the two-day event with a sixth place finish in the 800m at 2:36.20.
Running Highlights
The Warriors opened the day on the track by claiming the final qualifying spot in the 4x100m as the combination of Aaliyah Cancel, Destiny Thompson, Kamya Edmonds and Ariel Kyle clocked a time of 49.21.
Thompson was back on the track for the 100m where the graduate student advanced to tomorrow's final as she crossed the line in 12.33 to take seventh overall. The Nanjemoy, Md. native just missed moving on in the 200m as she took ninth in the prelims with a time of 25.55.
Megan Elgrim closed out the day strong for the Warriors as the sophomore finished ninth in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:48.06, which ranks seventh all-time in program history.
Freshman Makayla Smith posted a 19th place finish in the 100m hurdles after running a time of 16.22.
In the 800m preliminaries, freshman Hannah Skelly (2:26.30) and Carla Bautista finished 15th and 16th place respectively. Cancel took 11th place in 400m after clocking a time of 59.49 out of Heat 2.
Field Highlights
On her way to a fifth place finish in the long jump, Edmonds recorded a season-best leap of 5.50m (18-0 ½) on her fifth attempt.
In the pole vault, senior Nickolina Annelli finished in a tie for ninth after clearing the bar at 3.43m (11-3) on her second attempt and fellow classmate Heather Gaughran took 12th at 3.28m (10-9).
