EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University Director of Athletics Dr. Allen Snook announced on Monday that ESU's Acrobatics and Tumbling program will transition to STUNT and start competing in the 2024-25 academic year.
STUNT is a new female sport that incorporates skills derived from cheerleading. STUNT is an exciting head-to-head game between two teams who execute skills-based routines in various categories – partner stunts, jumps & tumbling, pyramids & tosses, and team routines.
"We at ESU are grateful to have had an opportunity to compete in the sport of acrobatics and tumbling over the past three seasons," said Dr. Snook. "Over the past several months we had a chance to re-examine our own sport offerings and the decision was made to move in the direction of STUNT with our acrobatics and tumbling program. This move will allow us to expand our current roster and offer more opportunities for participation for our student-athletes."
"This is really an exciting time for our program," said third-year head coach
Krikit Gulics. "I am honored to have this opportunity to build a new program for our talented athletes to thrive. STUNT is growing at such an incredible pace, and it offers a competitive environment which showcases all of the remarkable athleticism found in cheerleading. Through STUNT, every skill set from each athlete has a place and I simply cannot wait to bring the extraordinary talent on our team to the world of STUNT."
Coach Gulics is an executive board member for the New Jersey Cheerleading and Dance Coaches Association serving as the Corresponding Secretary, Digital Director, and Co-Director for the NJCDCA State Cheerleading Championship. She is a certified USA Cheerleading Coach and has over 15 years of stunting and tumbling experience at both the high school and collegiate levels.
ESU becomes one of 70-plus schools across the country to sponsor STUNT, which is classified as an emerging sport by the NCAA currently. The Warriors will be the third team in the state of Pennsylvania set to compete.
"We at STUNT and USA Cheer are excited for East Stroudsburg University to be adding a STUNT Program to their athletics department," said Lauri Harris, Executive Director of USA Cheer. "With their mission of providing a top-notch student-athlete experience, we know STUNT will be another great opportunity for female athletes on their campus."
