ESU Women's Track and Field Wins Two Events, Records Five Top-Three Finishes at Ramapo College Season Opener

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team competed at the Ramapo College Season Opener and the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday, winning two events and recording five top-three finishes. The Warriors added two PSAC automatic qualifying marks and two NCAA provisional marks.

Porschia Bennett (high jump) and Shannon Harnett (triple jump) led the Warriors with first-place finishes.
 
PSAC Automatic Qualifiers

Carla Bautista (mile run) and Harnett (triple jump) both achieved the PSAC automatic qualifying marks and times, with Harnett also reaching the NCAA provisional mark. Additionally, Bennett (high jump), who passed the PSAC mark last week, surpassed the NCAA mark today.
 
Running Highlights

Makayla Smith (pictured above) (9.59) had the top finish for the Warriors on the track, placing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles.

In the 400-meter race, Aaliyah Cancel finished ninth with a time of 1:00.85.

The Warriors also saw two top-15 finishes in the 800-meter and one-mile runs.

In the 800-meter, Alex Chobany (2:27.01) and Hannah Skelly (2:27.09) finished 13th and 14th, respectively.

In the mile run, Riley Trentowski (5:15.35) placed ninth, while Bautista (5:18.77) finished 14th, qualifying for the PSAC Championships.
 
Field Event Highlights

ESU excelled in the field events with five top-three finishes.

In the high jump, Bennett took first with a height of 5-7 ¾, marking the fifth-best jump in program history and the eighth best in Division II this season. Harnett rounded out the top 10 with her jump of 5-1 ¾.

 In the triple jump, Harnett finished first with a leap of 38-11 ¾, setting a new school record and is the tenth best triple jump in Division II.

Aina Galan (10-10.00) and Reese Ruggiero (10-10.00) finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault; Galan's performance ranks as the 10th best in program history.

In the weight throw, Samiyah Little and Sarah Roth both finished in the top five, with Little placing second (54-8 ¾) and Roth finishing fifth (46-2 ¾).

ESU's next meet will be in Lewisburg, Pa., as the Warriors compete at the Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell on Jan. 25.
