Warriors Unable to Stop Huskies' Strong Second Half

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team fell, 74-61, to Bloomsburg Saturday in Koehler Fieldhouse.
 
The Warriors (6-10, 3-7) entered halftime tied with the Huskies (11-6, 5-5), but a lopsided third quarter helped the visitors come away with the victory.
 
Notables

Emily Chmiel earned her 12th double-double of the season, posting 18 points, 12 rebounds, and one steal while shooting 64% from the floor. Chmiel's 12 double-doubles this season are the most by a Warrior since 2002-03.

Jessica Polin scored a season-high 15 points, shooting 67% from the field, including four of five from three-point range. Polin also contributed four assists, three steals, and one offensive rebound.

Brie Droege finished with 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists on 50% shooting.

Despite similar shooting splits between ESU (56/50/75) and Bloomsburg (56/50/75), the Huskies pulled away by outscoring the Warriors, 28-8, off turnovers.
 
How it happened

ESU put together a strong first quarter against a tough Bloomsburg squad, outscoring the visitors, 18-14. When the Warriors were up, 11-10, they went on a 7-2 run, led by five points from Jessica Polin and two points from Lacie Kringe. Bloomsburg scored a last-second basket to bring the margin within four, which ESU held until about midway through the second quarter. The Huskies went on an 8-4 run to close out the half and tie the game at 31 points.
 
At the start of the second half, the score was close with Bloomsburg leading, 43-42. The Huskies went on a 13-3 run to take an 11-point lead entering the fourth quarter. The Warriors started the final quarter with a 7-1 run, led by Emily Chmiel and Brooke Droege (pictured above), to make it a five-point game with 6:55 remaining. However, the Huskies closed out the game on a 17-9 run to take the win.
