Warriors Drop Midweek Conference Matchup to Kutztown, 3-1

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 4 East Stroudsburg University field hockey team fell to the No. 2 ranked Kutztown Golden Bears in a midweek conference game on Wednesday, dropping the contest 3-1 at Whitenight Field. The Warriors move to 7-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play after the tough matchup.

Kutztown scored two goals in the second quarter and added another in the fourth to secure the victory. East Stroudsburg's lone goal came in the first period, but the Warriors were unable to overcome the deficit.

Notables
Maddie Moline scored the only goal for the Warriors, at 13:10. Minke Klijn provided the assist on Moline's goal.

ESU outshot Kutztown 10-9 overall and held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Warriors also earned more penalty corners, with eight compared to Kutztown's five.
 
How it Happened
The Warriors got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead late in the opening period. At the 13:10 mark, Moline found the back of the net off an assist from Klijn.

Kutztown responded with two goals in the second quarter to take the lead. Rachel Galasso tied the game at 19:28, and Jade Traynor put the Golden Bears ahead 2-1 with a goal at the 28:53 mark.

After a scoreless third period, Kutztown extended its lead to 3-1 when Erin Gonzalez scored at 50:21 in the fourth quarter. The Warriors pressured late in the game, earning six of their eight total penalty corners in the final period and putting five shots on goal, but Kutztown's defense held strong to seal the victory.

The Warriors will return to Whitenight Field on Saturday, October 4 at 1:00 pm to take on Slippery Rock University. This is ESU's Think Pink Game for breast cancer awareness, as well as the 10 year anniversary celebration for the 2015 National Championship team.
