Warriors Notch 3-1 Victory While Celebrating 10-Year Anniversary of 2015 National Championship

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University field hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over Slippery Rock University on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field. The game, which served as ESU's Think Pink Game for breast cancer awareness and celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the 2015 National Championship team, marked the Warriors' return to the win column. The victory improves ESU's overall record to 8-2 and moves their conference record to 1-2.
 
Notables
Minke Klijn had one goal and one assist on the day. Klijn now leads the Warriors with seven goals and five assists on the season.
 
Emma Friend scored the equalizer goal for the Warriors.
 
Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla scored the final goal of the game and recorded an assist.
 
Kendall Eggleston registered an assist on the final goal.
 
ESU dominated offensively, outshooting Slippery Rock 20-2 overall and 11-1 in shots on goal.
 
How it Happened
The first quarter saw no scoring action from either side.
 
The pace quickened late in the second quarter. Slippery Rock struck first, with Riley Cloude scoring at the 29:17 mark, assisted by Grace Williams, to take a 1-0 lead.
 
East Stroudsburg quickly erased the deficit before halftime. Just 37 seconds later, Friend found the back of the net at 29:54, assisted by Klijn, sending the teams into the half-time break tied at 1-1.
 
The Warriors carried their momentum into the third period, scoring just 29 seconds after the restart. Klijn scored the go-ahead goal at 30:29, assisted by Rivera-Lagalla, giving ESU the 2-1 advantage. ESU heavily pressured SRU in the third quarter, registering 10 shots and earning 8 penalty corners.
 
The tight 2-1 lead held until late in the final period. ESU solidified the victory when Rivera-Lagalla scored at 57:44, with an assist credited to Eggleston, bringing the score to the final 3-1. ESU earned 12 penalty corners throughout the game.
 
Goalkeepers Sydney Pope and Jet Vermeulen combined for the win for East Stroudsburg.

The Warriors will travel to Sparkill, NY on Monday (October 6) for a non-conference game at St. Thomas Aquinas. Game time is set for 4 pm.
