PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team secured a 1-0 non-conference victory over Holy Family University on Tuesday, October 7. The win moves East Stroudsburg's overall record to 5-2-3 for the season.
Notables
Jade Wiley's goal against Holy Family was her sixth of the season. More significantly, this marked her fifth game-winning goal of the year.
Senior goalkeeper
Emmilia Clarkson played the full 90 minutes in goal for East Stroudsburg University, recording 2 saves in the win. Clarkson earned the win (moving her individual record to 4-1-3) and secured her fourth full shutout of the season.
Junior
Jazmine Bennett (1 SH, 1 SOG) and sophomore
Mia Chapman (2 SH, 1 SOG) were key in setting up the score, as they each registered an assist on the game's only goal.
Brie Sheaffer (1 SH, 1 SOG) and
McKenna Chisholm (1 SH, 1 SOG) also contributed shots on goal for ESU.
This victory was the third consecutive 1-0 shutout win for the Warriors in games where they earned the victory.
How it Happened
The Warriors only required one goal, scored in the first half of the contest. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute of play.
Sophomore Wiley netted the eventual game-winner at the 20:32 mark. Wiley's goal was set up by a pair of assists from junior Bennett and sophomore Chapman.
Despite a high-pressure effort from the home side in the final half, the ESU defense kept Holy Family off the board throughout the second period, securing the 1-0 result.
