EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon, fueled by dominant runs. Set scores were 25-21, 25-18, 19-25, and 25-16.
The Warriors extended their win streak to seven matches and improved to 19-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference. Bloomsburg fell to 8-16 overall and 0-10 in the PSAC. With this win, the Warriors clinched a spot in the PSAC playoffs.
Notables:
Anna Coulter led the floor with 15 kills and posted four total blocks. Kelly Crites and Romina Martinez both contributed 12 kills and two blocks apiece. Allison Birtcil rounded out the top scorers with 10 kills and two blocks. Kyra Bishop notched 40 assists and Harry Berry led the floor with six total blocks.
How it happened
Set 1: The teams traded points to begin, which included two kills from Coulter and one from Wise, 4-3. Bloomsburg responded with a seven point run to surge ahead to 10-4. The teams took turns putting points on the board with the Huskies staying in front, 17-10. ESU battled back with a dominant 10 point run to get in front 20-17. ESU managed to stay in front to take the first set, 25-21.
Set 2: Kills from Martinez and Coulter, along with three Bloomsburg attack errors, helped ESU jump out to a 6–3 lead. The teams each went on short runs to push the score to 14-13, with ESU in front. A kill from Martinez and consecutive kills from Crites extended their lead to 17-13. Two more Crites kills and a block from her and Berry put ESU ahead by five, 21-16. Bloomsburg cut the deficit to 24-18, but a service error gave the second set to ESU.
Set 3: ESU opened strong with a 5-1 lead before the Huskies tied it up and took the lead, 10-7, off a five point run. A block from Birtcil and Berry, followed by a Birtcil kill, pulled the Warriors within one at 10–9. The teams each went on five point runs to tie the score at 16. A kill from Berry put the Warriors within two, 21-19, however the Huskies closed out the set with four consecutive points to force the fourth.
Set 4: The Huskies got on the board first with a kill just before the Warriors surged ahead with an eight point run, 8-1. ESU maintained their nine point lead throughout and kills from Crites and Coulter sealed the final two points to close out the match.
