EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — In the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Men's Basketball poll, the ESU men's basketball team received votes for the first time this season.
After a 4-0 start that's featured three 20-point-plus wins, the Warriors have begun to earn national recognition for their performances. ESU received 19 votes, the seventh-most of teams outside the Top 25 rankings. East Stroudsburg was one of two PSAC teams to appear in the rankings, with Gannon coming in at ninth in Division II.
ESU's hot start has been fueled by their offense, ranking towards the top of not just the PSAC, but Division II as well, in a couple of key metrics. The Warriors' offense averages 96.5 PPG, second in the conference and ninth in Division II. Additionally, the Warriors average a scoring margin of 19.3 PPG and boast a field goal percentage of 50.4%, both of which are second in the PSAC and 23
rd and 24
th in the country, respectively. On the defensive end, the Warriors' calling card has been their three-point defense. ESU has limited its opponents to just a 21.7% three-point field goal percentage, leading the conference and coming in at 7
th in Division II.
The Warriors have two more non-conference games on their schedule before opening conference play next weekend. They'll host Mercy at 4 p.m. tomorrow evening, travel to Molloy for a contest Tuesday night, and take on Seton Hill Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.
