Warriors Win Second-Longest Recorded Game in Division II History on Manning’s First Collegiate Home Run

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — After a 21-inning marathon against nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire, the East Stroudsburg University baseball team won 7-6 on freshmen Ryan Manning's first collegiate home run.

The Warriors (13-2) were down to their final out, trailing by two in the ninth inning, but rallied to tie the Penmen (7-5) before winning in walk-off fashion in the 21st.

ESU and Southern New Hampshire etched their names in the record books, as Friday's game was the second-longest record in Division II history at 21 innings—one shy of the record (Official NCAA Division II baseball records began with the 1963 season).

The longest game, a 22-inning contest, took place on April 20, 1964, between Kentucky Wesleyan and Oakland City. In 2023, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock played 20 innings, making this just the third recorded Division II game to reach at least 20 innings.

Pitching notables
Peyton Brannock (1 1/3 IP), Caden Parker (3 IP), Cole Dymek (4 IP), Ethan Woods (4 IP) and Ryan Cavanaugh (1 IP) combined for 13 1/3 shutout innings, 11 strikeouts and five hits allowed.

Batting notables
Dennis Pierce reached base five times on four hits, including a leadoff home run and a double.

Easton Albert also reached base five times on four hits.

Jack Rothenhausler drove in the tying runs in the ninth with a two-RBI double.

Ryan Manning, who entered as a pinch runner in the ninth, became the hero with a walk-off solo home run in the 21st.

How it happened
After Pierce's leadoff home run and Southern New Hampshire scoring twice, Pierce delivered an RBI double in the third to tie it. The Penmen answered and took a 6-3 lead into the ninth.

After Shanley Wall's second sacrifice fly made it 6-4, the Warriors were down to their final out when Rothenhausler tied it with a two-RBI double.

After both teams scored six runs in nine innings, neither bullpen allowed a run until the 21st. Southern New Hampshire's best opportunity came in the 20th with two runners on and no outs, but ESU escaped with clutch pitching and solid defense. In the bottom of the 21st, Manning ended it with his solo shot.

Up next
The teams meet again Saturday for a doubleheader at Creekview Park. First pitch is set for noon.
