GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team battled No. 10 Adelphi in a back-and-forth matchup but fell just short in an 11-10 loss at Motamed Field.
The Warriors (3-3) took an early lead and held an advantage late, but the Panthers (5-2) rallied to secure the win.
Notables
Sadie Kauffman led ESU with six goals on nine shots while adding two draw controls and a ground ball. She was a perfect 3-for-3 on free-position attempts.
Ariana Tucci recorded a hat trick on five shots and converted on a free-position attempt.
How it happened
Tucci and Kauffman got the Warriors off to a strong start, each scoring twice in the first half to give ESU a 4-2 lead. However, Adelphi responded with five consecutive goals to take a 7-4 advantage early in the third period.
Trailing 8-5,
Lauren Hallman and Kauffman found the back of the net late in the third to pull ESU within one heading into the final period.
Kauffman and Tucci scored back-to-back goals in the fourth to give the Warriors a 9-8 lead, but the Panthers quickly answered to tie the game with 12:30 remaining.
Kauffman struck again with 3:17 to play, giving ESU a late advantage, but Adelphi responded with two goals, including the game-winner with eight seconds left.
