WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 11 East Stroudsburg University baseball team dropped two close games against No. 10 West Chester, falling 5-3 and 4-3 on Sunday to split the four-game weekend series.
The Warriors (16-6, 2-2) were ahead at one point in both games against the Golden Rams (17-5, 2-2) but were unable to secure a victory.
Highlights
Jack Rothenhausler recorded two hits, including a double that broke the school record for most career doubles with 58.
Parker Frey tallied two hits and an RBI.
Cameron Hubbard reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Game 1
ESU took an early lead in the second inning when
Ryan Manning drove in
Walker Zampella on a fielder's choice.
Dennis Pierce added another run with a sacrifice fly to score Manning.
After West Chester responded with a three-run second,
Jackson Rutecki tied the game with a sacrifice fly to bring home
Joel Bonner. However, the Golden Rams regained the lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, securing a 5-3 win.
Game 2
After two scoreless innings,
Francisco Taveras doubled to left field to drive in Manning, then later scored on a Rothenhausler sacrifice fly.
ESU extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth when Frey singled to bring home Hubbard. However, West Chester responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take its first lead of the game and held on for the 4-3 win.
