MANSFIELD, Pa. – The No. 12 East Stroudsburg University softball team capped off it's regular season with a sweep at Mansfield, winning 11-1, 8-2 on Sunday at Helen Lutes Field.
The Warriors (42-9-1, 26-5-1 PSAC East) once again swept the Mountaineers (8-32, 6-26 PSAC East) and will enter the PSAC Championship Tournament as the PSAC East regular season champions for the third straight season. This marks head coach
Jaime Wohlbach's third PSAC East regular season championship, as no other coach in program history has won even one.
Notables
Sarah Davenport was stellar, allowing zero earned runs and striking out 17 batters over seven innings to earn her school-record 27th win of the season.
In Game 2,
Abigail Weirich totaled three bases to set a program record with 114 total bases this season, surpassing the old record of 112.
Delaney Ridgell finished the day with five hits, two RBIs and four runs scored.
Shannon Edelman,
Tulana Mingin and
Kinsley Proepper each recorded three RBIs. Edelman reached base safely four times on three hits and a walk. Mingin added two hits and a run scored, while Proepper also tallied two hits.
How It Happened – Game 1
Mansfield struck first in the bottom of the first inning, but
Kinsley Proepper tied the game with an RBI single in the second. In the third, ESU broke the game open, scoring five runs off hits by
Tulana Mingin,
Delaney Ridgell,
Maddy Pritchard and
Shannon Edelman to take a 5-1 lead.
The Warriors continued to add on, with
Tatum Kresley and Mingin driving in runs in the sixth, and Edelman capping the scoring in the seventh.
Sarah Davenport kept the Mansfield bats quiet to pick up her record-breaking 27th win as ESU cruised to an 11-1 victory.
How It Happened – Game 2
This time, the Warriors jumped out early, with
Tulana Mingin,
Delaney Ridgell and
Tatum Kresley driving in the first three runs of the game. After the Mountaineers scored a run in the second,
Katie Master and
Kinsley Proepper each drove in a run in the third to extend the lead to 5-1.
Proepper and
Abigail Weirich added insurance runs later to help ESU secure an 8-2 win and complete the sweep.
Faith Troyer, and
Abbie Landrum combined for seven innings, striking out eight and only allowing two runs in the finale.
