WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team opened the season at the West Point Invitational on Saturday. The team had a strong showing, winning three events while adding six PSAC automatic qualifying marks.
Capturing first place finishes in their respective events were Aaliyah Cancel (500m), Riley Trentowski (mile), and Shannon Harnett (high jump).
PSAC Automatic Qualifiers
Track Events
In the mile, ESU had four runners finish in the top 10. Leading the way was Riley Trentowski who placed first and earned a PSAC qualifying mark with a 5:00.23 time. Her time marked the second fastest time in program history. Sarah Williams placed fifth (5:26.93), Kiera Wimbush placed eighth (5:32.83), and Mia Sisilli place ninth (5:33.70).
Aaliyah Cancel took first (1:20.43) in the 500m and Ashley Landis followed in third (1:21.82). Lilah Matthews and Alexis Ray placed fifth and sixth respectively.
In the 60m hurdles, Eyinah Smith qualified for the finals with a 9.55 time in the preliminaries. Smith placed sixth in the finals with a time of 9.54 and placed eighth in the 200m with a time of 27.66.
Carla Bautista placed fourth in the 3000m (10:46.55) and Megan Elgrim placed 12th (11:52.24).
Field Events
In the high jump, ESU had three athletes place in the top five and all earn PSAC qualifying marks. Shannon Harnett placed first (1.66m), Porschia Bennett placed second (1.66m), and Victoria Phillips placed fourth (1.63.)
Shannon Harnett placed second in the long jump with a 5.44m effort, earning a PSAC qualifying mark while recording the sixth best jump in program history.
Aina Galan placed third in the pole vault (3.35m) and Reese Ruggiero placed eighth (3.05m). In the triple jump, Karla Tshiyonga placed eighth with a jump of 10.53m.
Bailey Grassmann marked the best finish for the Warriors in the weight throw with a ninth place finish (13.24m) and Gabriela Pifano placed 11th in the shot put (11.79m).
