1/30/2026 5:11:00 PM

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — After a close loss to West Chester on Thursday night, the Warriors look ahead to a PSAC East matchup against Millersville on Saturday afternoon in a battle between the second and third seeds in the division.

GAME INFORMATION

Saturday's game is the ESU men's basketball team's annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. The team and all of ESU Athletics will honor all who have been impacted by the disease before tipoff. Before and during the game, a table will be set up for fans to write who they honor, with all the signs being hung up on the red wall on the right side of Koehler Fieldhouse. The team will be collecting donations, which are not required but are accepted, for the American Cancer Society at the same table.

SCOUTING EAST STROUDSBURG

  • In their last outing, the Warriors fell to rival West Chester, 85-82. ESU now dropped to 14-6 overall and moved into third place in the PSAC East with an 8-5 conference record.
  • The Warriors have four players averaging over 10.0 PPG, but none are hotter than Nasir Griffin right now. The senior forward went off Thursday night for a career-high 26 points, bringing his season average to 11.0 PPG. Griffin has also been one of ESU’s better free-throw shooters, making 71.8% of his team-leading 85 attempts.
  • Adrian Brito looks to respond after a quiet outing in the Warriors’ last game. Brito is still ESU’s leading scorer on a game-to-game basis with 12.5 PPG, doing so more efficiently than anyone in the conference with a 62.7 FG%.
  • Over the course of his freshman year season, Keni Williams has developed into a dependable scoring option and ball handler coming off the bench. Averaging 10.1 PPG, Williams has built his game on acrobatic finishes around the rim and pushing the pace in transition, leading the team with 3.3 APG as well.
  • Ethan Maynard and Griffin make up the top two scorers on the starting unit, as Maynard averages 11.2 PPG. The sophomore guard has excelled in getting his shot up before the defense can contest, excelling from three-point range with a 41.1 3P%.
  • Jalen Pichardo has been the Warriors’ top rebounder, as well as one of the best in Division II. He’s currently sixth in total RPG in the PSAC with 8.3. On the offensive glass, Pichardo is 15th in Division II with 3.7 ORPG, the best in the conference.
  • Ethan Millirons has been the best three-point shooter in Division II for the majority of the season, making 49.0% of his attempts. Millirons has made multiple three-pointers in four of his last six games.
  • The Warriors have one of, if not, the best bench squads in Division II, with four of the team’s top-six scorers coming on with the second unit. ESU is ranked second nationally in bench points at 46.6 PPG in 19 games. The depth scoring helps fuel ESU’s scoring offense, which is second in the PSAC and 16th nationally, averaging 88.8 PPG.
  • ESU and Gannon are tied for the conference lead in APG, with both teams averaging 18.0. That average is the 13th best in Division II.
  • The Warriors thrive on the glass, averaging 39.4 RPG, the fourth-best in the conference. Where teams struggle against them is preventing ESU from creating second-chance opportunities, as the Warriors average 15.6 ORPG and win the rebounding battle by a margin of 6.7 RPG.

SCOUTING MILLERSVILLE

  • Millersville is riding a two-game win streak coming into Koehler Fieldhouse following their most recent win against Bloomsburg, 78-53 on Saturday, Jan. 24.
  • Millersville has four players averaging over 10.0 PPG, with Day Waters leading the Marauders in scoring. Waters has averaged 20.0 PPG on shooting 43.6% from the field, along with shooting 36.2% from three-point range. Waters is the second-leading scorer in the PSAC in 19 games and was also recently named PSAC East Athlete of the Week for a second time this season.
  • Saraj Ali averages 17.5 PPG while shooting 62.4% from the field. Ali is second in the PSAC in FG% behind East Stroudsburg's Adrian Brito, and sixth in the PSAC in scoring.
  • Aamir Hurst is averaging 11.6 PPG on 46.9% shooting from the field and gets to the free-throw line frequently. Hurst is third on the team with the most attempts, shooting 84.6% from the stripe.
  • Millersville’s fourth player averaging double figures is guard D.J. Matthews-Spratley, who comes in with 10.4 PPG. Matthews-Spratley leads the team in FT%, making 91.9% of his 37 attempts, and is third on the team in 3P% with a 34.1% mark, and third in APG with 2.0.
  • The Marauders also have a tenacious rebounder and shot blocker in Cesar Tchilombo, who is fourth in the PSAC, averaging 8.7 RPG, and leads the team in blocks with 20 total. Tchilombo scores 7.3 PPG, shooting 67.7% from the free-throw line.
  • This is a Marauders team that puts pressure on a defense the way they get to the line. Millersville is ranked first in the PSAC in FT% and FTM per game, averaging 18.5, which is ranked 17th nationally in Division II.
  • On the other side of the floor, the Marauders have a swarming defense that makes it tough on teams inside the paint. Millersville has the second-best scoring defense in the conference, allowing just 73.2 PPG, and leading the PSAC with 4.6 blocks per game.

SERIES HISTORY

  • ESU came out on top in the teams’ first meeting this season, winning 74-68 at Millersville. The road win snapped a six-game win streak for the home team.
  • The Warriors have won their last three home games against Millersville and are 16-1 since 2010 when playing in Koehler Fieldhouse.
  • Overall, Millersville still holds a 103-62 advantage all-time against East Stroudsburg, though the tide has turned ESU’s way since Head Coach Jeff Wilson took over in 2002-03. Wilson is 30-19 against Millersville and 14-6 when going head-to-head against Millersville Head Coach Casey Stitzel.
