10/23/2026 11:46:00 AM

MANHEIM, Pa. — The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) posted the regional and national rankings for men's wrestling on Thursday. ESU sits as the No. 6 team, with six wrestlers ranked in Super Region I, including Layton Schmick, who was voted No. 8 nationally in the 285-pound weight class.

Schmick sits atop the Region I rankings for his class, being the only Warrior to receive a national rank. Despite not competing last season, the former NWCA Super Region I Rookie of the Year still carries a strong presence with a combined record of 56-11 in his freshman and sophomore seasons. The next highest rank for ESU is Austin Noe in the 149-pound class. Only behind Frostburg State's Gage Heilbrun, Noe is the No. 2 wrestler in the class, coming off a 23-14 season that included a PSAC Athlete of the Week.

At 157, Gavin Reynolds was tabbed at the No. 3 spot. The junior finished last season with a record of 24-15 with six pins, five technical falls and three major decision wins. Anthony Lawrence sits as the No. 4 wrestler in the 165-pound weight class. Lawrence picked up 17 victories in the 2025-26 season as well as opening the season by winning his bracket at the ESU Open.

Joe Aldrich at 141 and Brendan Ridge at 174 are both ranked No. 6 of their respective weight class in the region. In his first season with the Warriors, Aldrich earned 17 wins with eight of those coming from duals. Ridge concluded last season with 11 wins, three by fall, one by technical fall, and two by major decision.

The Warriors begin their season on Nov. 1 at Koehler Fieldhouse with the ESU Open. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m.
