Warriors Unable to Come Back Against Raiders

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — After a second-half goal put the Warriors down, they were unable to come back, falling 1-0 to the Shippensburg Raiders on Saturday afternoon. ESU falls to 4-2-3 in the conference, staying one point behind both Millersville and West Chester in the standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•    Shippensburg controlled much of the early going, getting four looks at the net before the Warriors could earn their first in the 20th minute. This sparked both offenses to heat up, with Jeter Cardona and Micaiah Clarke immediately rattling off two more shots for ESU. The Raiders followed with two more shots of their own in the next four minutes. The closing minutes saw shots from Owen Rennie and Jake van Lierop that were unable to connect, closing the half in a 0-0 stalemate.
•    Both teams continued to trade shots back and forth into the second half. After another shot from Clarke, Shippensburg took a strong drive all the way to score the first goal of the game.
•    The goal lit a fire in the Warriors as they took three shots within the next 10 minutes of play, though none of them found the back of the net. After two more shots before the 70th minute, the Raiders' defense caught up with ESU, preventing another shot until the final seconds. With one last chance, a shot from Ryan Kiernan was blocked to hold the Warriors scoreless.

GAME NOTES
•    This is now the third straight game where ESU has been held scoreless. Before this stretch, the team had just one scoreless game. This came despite three players contributing to six shots on goal. Steven Arias led the team with three, Clarke recorded two, and Cardona notched one.
•    Phil Sykes repeated his performance in net from Wednesday's game against Millersville with five saves. The 15 shots he faced today marked the fourth time in a row that double-digit chances have come his way. In the last four games, he's totaled 14 saves.
