EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — With the season winding down and every game becoming even more important in the standings, the Warriors take on Lock Haven on Wednesday night for their penultimate road game of the regular season.

SCOUTING EAST STROUDSBURG

  • As the Warriors head into their last three games of the regular season, they sit third in the PSAC East standings. At 12-6 in conference, ESU is half a game behind Shepherd and West Chester.
  • ESU is coming off back-to-back double-digit wins against Mansfield and Shippensburg, looking to continue this streak to close the season. The Warriors split the season series with the Raiders while completing the sweep against the Mountaineers.
  • Adrian Brito, the team’s leading scorer, is averaging 12.6 points per game, shooting an efficient 61.9% from the field. Brito scored 15-plus points in both games last week, off a 72.2% FG%. Brito was recognized by the conference for his play last week, being named PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
  • Nasir Griffin and Ethan Maynard are also on scoring tears in the last three games, being the only other Warriors to score double-digit points during that span. During this stretch, Griffin is averaging 15.3 points, up from his season average of 11.4. Similarly, Maynard has gone for 15.6 points per game, also an increase from his season average, currently at 11.6 points.
  • Jalen Pichardo has been crashing the board on offense all season with 3.5 offensive rebounds per game. This ranks him second in the PSAC, good for 19th in the nation.
  • Saleem Payne is averaging the second-most assists for the Warriors with 2.8 per game. He’s hit over this average in each of the last three games, going for an average of 4.6 in this time.
  • Ethan Millirons continues to be one of the best shooters from behind the arc for the Warriors. His 46.5% is the second-best three-point percentage in the PSAC.
  • The Warriors currently have the second-best offense in the PSAC, averaging 88.8 points per game. 44.2 of those points come from the second-highest scoring bench unit in Division II.
  • The offense also shines through assists, as their 17.4 per game ranks them in the top three of the PSAC and 16th in the league.
  • A key part of ESU’s success has been its ability to rebound the ball offensively, as its 14.9 offensive rebounds per game is the eighth-best of all Division II teams. This helps them be a top-three rebounding team in the PSAC as they outrebound their opponents by an average of 6.1 boards in each game.

SCOUTING LOCK HAVEN

  • Lock Haven is currently sitting at sixth in the conference, being 5-12 against PSAC opponents as well as 9-15 overall. They are two games behind Shippensburg, with Bloomsburg trailing the Bald Eagles by one game, making each contest critical for Lock Haven’s bid to the PSAC tournament.
  • In their lone game last week, Lock Haven’s two-game winning streak was snapped in a double-digit loss to Millersville. In the loss, all five starters scored over 10 points with Dyllon Scott going for 17.
  • Scott is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 14.3 points per game while shooting 44.5% from the field. The last time he played at home, Scott scored an efficient career-high 33 with a field goal percentage of 73.3%.
  • Sharing the backcourt with Scott is Dean Coleman-Newsome, posting the third-most points and second-most assists per game for the Bald Eagles. Coleman-Newsome has hit his career-high of seven assists three times this season, including the last home game against Millersville.
  • Deegan Blake has been Lock Haven’s go-to man for rebounds, averaging 6.2 per game. He’s gone for 10-plus rebounds four times this season, three of those being double-doubles.
  • Keith Warren is the second-leading scorer for the Bald Eagles with 12.8 per game. In the last five games, he’s contributed an average of 16.0 points, the third most of anyone on the team.
  • The Bald Eagles are one of the most disciplined teams in the PSAC, having just 332 in the 22 games they’ve played. This is the least personal fouls of any team in the conference.
  • Lock Haven has taken advantage of their trips to the free-throw line, making 74.5% of their shots. This ranks them second in the PSAC.

SERIES HISTORY

  • In their last contest, the Warriors made short work of the Bald Eagles, winning by 29 points. This game saw Keni Williams post his first and only double-double of the season, while Pichardo did the same. ESU doubled Lock Haven’s rebounds, having four players grab five or more boards. The bench unit was a huge part of the win for the Warriors, accounting for 60 of the 92 total points compared to Lock Haven’s 14 bench points.
  • While historically having the edge against Lock Haven, ESU has a losing record when traveling to face the Bald Eagles. However, in the last 10 road match-ups, the Warriors came out on top six times despite dropping the last one 74-69.
  • Jeff Wilson has been particularly successful against Lock Haven since taking over as ESU head coach in 2002, going 26-10. Wilson has five series sweeps over the Bald Eagles since they joined the conference in 2013, all under their head coach, Mike Nestor. Nestor joined Lock Haven before the 2011-12 season and has gone 7-18 against the Warriors since then.
