Softball Splits Home Opener Against Wilmington (Del.)

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University softball team split its home opener against Wilmington (Del.) Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors won the first game 3-0 but fell to the Wildcats in the second game, 11-6.

Game 1 

On the mound, Sarah Davenport (W, 2-2) allowed no runs on five hits and recorded eight strikeouts. Marissa Perez, Delaney Ridgell, Kinsley Proepper, Megan Chroniger, and Katie Master all recorded hits for the Warriors.  

In the bottom of the first, Tulana Mingin scored on Proepper's RBI double to left center after drawing a walk and stealing second. 

In the fifth, Macy Crum drew a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. She scored on Perez's RBI single to left field. Ridgell followed with a single, but a flyout ended the inning. 

In the sixth, Chroniger singled to right field, stole second and third, and later scored on a groundout for the Warriors' final run. 

Game 2 

Chroniger and Master both recorded two hits and scored two runs. Ridgell and Proepper also scored, while Ridgell, Proepper, and Kaitlynn Colangelo each recorded hits. 

The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the second inning on three hits, then capitalized on a throwing error in the fourth to make it 4-0. 

In the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors scored three runs on four hits. Ridgell and Chroniger opened with singles. Master's double through the right side scored Ridgell. Master and Chroniger later scored on Colangelo's single down the left field line before the inning ended. 

In the fifth, the Wildcats extended their lead to 8-3 after scoring another four runs on four hits. They tacked on another run on two hits in the sixth. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Master hit a three-run home run to score Proepper and Chroniger, cutting the deficit to 9-6. Proepper and Chroniger both recorded hits to center field.  

The Wildcats responded with a two-run homer in the seventh. ESU was unable to rally in the final inning, falling 11-6 in game two. 

Up Next 

The Warriors return to action on Saturday, February 21, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas.
