EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The ESU baseball team completed its first doubleheader sweep of 2026, taking the series against Saint Anselm with 17-2 and 3-0 wins.
PITCHING NOTABLES
- The Warriors had a great day on the mound, getting five strong innings from their starters in both games. Evan Hughes, last week's PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, got the nod for game three of the series, striking out four and only allowing one earned run. Cade Davis got his first win as a Warrior in the series finale, keeping the Hawks off the board with seven strikeouts and no walks.
- ESU's bullpen was equally dominant, getting four total innings and not allowing the Hawks to create any offense. Peyton Brannock made his first appearance as a relief pitcher this season, recording all three outs by strikeout, and Evan Kovalcik took care of the seventh with three groundouts on four pitches in the third game. Jake Albert entered the fourth game in the sixth inning, striking out three while only allowing two batters to reach base for the save.
BATTING NOTABLES
- Ryan Manning stayed hot after his walk-off home run yesterday, opening the day with a grand slam in his first plate appearance. He had another hit and reached on a walk later in the day.
- Braydon Hubbard got on base with ease in both games, going 3-4 in the first of the day and 1-3 with a walk in the series finale. Hubbard had three RBIs and scored twice.
- Troy Davis stepped up for ESU in left field to start the day, going 2-3 with a walk. Davis drove in two runs while also crossing the plate twice himself.
- Six other Warriors recorded RBIs across both games for ESU, as they outscored Saint Anselm 20-2 on the day.
GAME ONE
- ESU got to work immediately in the bottom of the first to open the day, getting three of their first four batters on base. Manning, who got the start in center field, delivered with a grand slam for an emphatic start to the doubleheader. ESU wasn't done after his home run, as Zander Condeelis drove home Davis, and Hubbard notched his second single of the inning to bring home Easton Albert for a six-run inning.
- The Warriors' offense went off again in the bottom of the third to reach a double-digit run lead. Troy Davis led off with a double, and Connor Reilly followed up with a base on balls, giving Albert runners on first and second base. The shortstop singled to right center for a RBI, advancing to second base off a Condeelis groundout. Zampella scored both Reilly and Albert with a triple to right field, making it 10-0. Later on, with Zampella still 90 feet away and Cole Serfass now on first base, Parker Frey hit a single to right field, scoring Zampella and keeping runners on the corners for the Warriors. Troy Davis added another run on a fielder's choice, and Reilly's double to left brought home Frey for a seven-run, six-hit third inning.
- After Saint Anselm got on the board with a solo home run, ESU piled on with three runs in the fourth and matched Saint Anselm's tally in the fifth with one of its own to take game three of the series 17-2.
GAME TWO
- Cade Davis worked his way out of some trouble to keep Saint Anselm from scoring in the top of the first. After two hits to start the game, Davis retired the next three batters he faced on a fielder's choice, strikeout, and groundout to third base.
- The Warriors' bats stayed hot going into the second game, getting on the board in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Serfass got on base with a single to right field, and Frey followed that up with a double to left center to score the DH all the way from first for the game's first run.
- Cade Davis had a much easier second inning after getting the boost from the bats, striking out the side with three straight Ks on swings.
- Leading off the bottom of the second, Troy Davis delivered with a triple to the outfield wall, and Reilly added an insurance run with a single in the next at-bat. The catcher stole second during the next batter up and advanced to third, but was left stranded after giving ESU a 2-0 lead.
- ESU started the second game with three runs in three innings, with the early, consistent offense being enough to take the fourth game of the weekend. Zampella had another leadoff extra-base hit for the Warriors, and again, ESU drove in the runner on the next plate appearance, this time off a single from Serfass.
- Cade Davis never let Saint Anselm generate anything offensively, only facing three batters in the fourth and four in the fifth. Though he did end up with a runner on third base after a strikeout on a wild pitch, he retired his final batter with a groundout back at him to complete his outing. Albert shut the door in the sixth and seventh innings, stranding a runner by getting a strikeout and groundout in each time up for the save.
