Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Over Caldwell

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Caldwell on Saturday afternoon, claiming an 8-1 victory in game one and a 6-3 win in game two.

The Warriors have now won four straight games and improve to 7-5 overall on the season.

Game 1

The Warriors used a seven-run fourth inning to take the first game, 8-1. Seven players combined to score runs for the Warriors, while Tulana Mingin scored twice. On the mound, Sarah Davenport (W, 4-2), allowed one run on three hits, and recorded 12 strikeouts.

Caldwell scored in the first inning on an RBI single.

The Warriors answered in the bottom half of the inning. Mingin reached on an error and stole both second and third. Marissa Perez drew a walk and stole second, while Kinsley Proepper also walked. Megan Chroniger brought Mingin home on a groundout to even the score before the inning ended.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors scored seven runs to take control. Karyle Teeman and Macy Crum both drew walks to start the inning. Mingin singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a throw, allowing Teeman to score. Kaitlynn Colangelo reached base on an error by the pitcher, while Crum crossed the plate. Delaney Ridgell's single to centerfield advanced Perez, before a wild pitch advanced the runners once more. Proepper's walk loaded the bases before Chroniger's triple to right field scored three runs. Chroniger then scored on Master's RBI single to shortstop.

Game 2

Trailing by two early runs, the Warriors responded with a pair of three-run innings to secure a 6-3 win and complete the sweep.

Both Ridgell and Katie Master recorded two hits, while Proepper and Perez recorded one each. Scoring two runs each were Ridgell and Proepper. On the mound, Tessa Guenette (W, 3-1), allowed three runs on two hits.

Caldwell capitalized on three early ESU errors to score one run in the first inning without a hit, then added another in the third on one hit and an error.

The Warriors responded in the bottom of the third scoring three runs on one hit and an error. Ridgell's single to left field and two hit-by-pitches loaded the bases. Sacrifice flies from Chroniger and Master plated Maddin Grow and Ridgell. Proepper later scored on a throwing error, giving ESU a 3-2 advantage.

ESU extended its lead in the fifth inning. Ridgell and Proepper opened with hits and both came around to score following a fielding error. Master doubled to left, advanced on a fielder's choice, and later scored on Perez's RBI single to center.

The Cougars scored a final run on a groundout in the top of the seventh.
