WILMINGTON, Del. -- The East Stroudsburg University softball team used homeruns from Delaney Ridgell and Megan Chroniger to power past the Wildcats Friday afternoon, taking the first game 7-5 and game two 9-3.
The Warriors extended their winning streak to eight games and improved to 11-5 on the season.
Ridgell went 5-for-7 at the plate, scored four runs, and totaled five RBIs, while Kinsley Proepper finished 6-for-7 and scored three runs.
Game 1
Sarah Davenport improved to 6-2 on the season after allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out seven.
Tulana Mingin and Marissa Perez began the game with singles to left field and both stole second. A sacrifice fly from Ridgell scored both runners to give ESU an early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third with two outs, Ridgell singled down the left field line and later scored on an RBI double to left center from Proepper.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats scored five runs on six hits to take a 5-3 lead.
In the seventh, the Warriors rallied with four runs on five hits. Ridgell's three-run homer to right center put ESU back in front, 6-5, scoring Mingin and Georgia Tym. Proepper followed with a single through the left side and later scored on Chroniger's triple down the right field line to make the score 7-5.
Game 2
On the mound wasTessa Guenette who improved to 5-1 on the season. She allowed just one run on three hits and struck out three.
The Warriors jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning after Chroniger's three-run homer. Mingin led off with a single and later scored on Ridgell's RBI single through the right side. Ridgell advanced to third on Proepper's single to right center before both runners scored on Chroniger's three-run homer to right center to make it 4-0.
Wilmington got on the board in the bottom of the first and added a run in both the third and fifth innings to cut the deficit to 4-3.
In the sixth, ESU extended its lead to 8-3, scoring four runs on two hits and an error. Two consecutive singles and a walk loaded the bases before another walk forced in Proepper. Chroniger then scored on a fielder's choice, a fly out brought home Katie Master, and Kaitlynn Colangelo scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors added their final run in the seventh. Ridgell doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on Proepper's single to left center. Chroniger's sacrifice fly brought Ridgell home to seal the 9-3 victory.
