SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The No. 25 East Stroudsburg University softball team opened conference play with a pair of losses to No. 21 Shippensburg on Friday, falling 8-3 in game one and 6-4 in game two.
The Warriors are now 12-8 overall and 0-2 in PSAC action. Despite dropping both games, the Warriors totaled 23 hits on the day.
Notables
Delaney Ridgell and Megan Chroniger both recorded four hits each, while Marissa Perez, Katie Master, Kinsley Proepper, and Maddy Pritchard all recorded two hits. In the second game, Tessa Guenette recorded five strikeouts on the mound.
Game 1
The Raiders scored the first run in the opening inning, and a home run in the second gave them an early 2-0 lead.
The Warriors got on the board in the third. Perez opened the inning with a triple to center field and scored on Ridgell's RBI single up the middle.
Shippensburg extended ESU's deficit to three runs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs on three hits and one error.
In the fifth, with two outs, the Warriors hit three consecutive doubles, scoring two runs. Proepper doubled to left field and scored on Chroniger's RBI double to right field. Chroniger then scored on Master's RBI double to left field.
The Raiders added four more runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 8-3.
Both Perez and Ridgell singled up the middle in the top of the seventh. However, a double play and a final strikeout ended the game.
Game 2
On the first pitch of the top of the third, ESU got on the board with Pritchard's home run to left field.
In the bottom of the inning, the Raiders responded by scoring three runs on four hits.
The Warriors retook the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits. Proepper led off with a single to right center, then advanced on Chroniger's single to left center. Proepper advanced on a passed ball, and Chroniger stole second to put both runners in scoring position. Kaitlynn Colangelo's two-RBI single to center field scored both runners, tying the game at three. Karlye Teman entered as a pinch runner for Colangelo after she advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pritchard's RBI single to left field scored Teman to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead.
Shippensburg added two runs in the fifth inning on four hits, then added its final run in the sixth on two hits and one error.
