STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University softball team split Friday's doubleheader against Shippensburg, winning the opener 2-1 in nine innings before dropping the second game 5-0.
With today's split, the Warriors are now 21-13 overall and 9-7 in conference action.
Game 1
The Warriors used a walk-off hit from Katie Master in the bottom of the ninth to take the first game, 2-1. ESU recorded seven hits, while Sarah Davenport held the Raiders to just one run on four hits. Davenport improved to 12-6 on the season, striking out nine batters.
ESU got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, Faith Troyer entered the game and doubled down the left field line, later scoring on an RBI single to right field by Marissa Perez.
Shippensburg answered in the top of the sixth, tying the game with one run on one hit.
Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings despite hits from Megan Chroniger and Troyer, who were left stranded.
In the ninth, Delaney Ridgell led off with a single to center field, and pinch runner Macy Crum advanced to second on a groundout. Crum then scored the game-winning run on Master's walk-off hit up the middle.
Game 2
The Warriors fell 5-0 in the second game, managing just three hits. The Raiders added two early runs in the first inning on three hits.
ESU's first hit came in the bottom of the third when Tulana Mingin singled through the left side. Chroniger followed with a single in the fourth, and Ridgell added another hit in the sixth.
The Raiders extended their lead with one run in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to secure the win.
