Late-Inning Comebacks Power Warriors to Doubleheader Sweep; Davenport records 900th Career Strikeout

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg University softball team secured a series sweep of Millersville with 9-2 and 7-4 victories on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors improved to 25-15 overall and 13-9 in conference play.

Notables

ESU recorded 23 total hits across the two games and hit four key homeruns in game two. Tulana Mingin led the offense with five hits, while Megan Chroniger and Delaney Ridgell each added four.

Chroniger hit two homeruns in the second game, while both Ridgell and Karlye Teman hit one. Adding two hits apiece were Teman, Maddin Grow, Gigi DeMito, Kinsley Proepper, and Katie Master.

Sarah Davenport improved to 16-7 on the season and struck out 21 batters on the day. In the bottom of the third inning in the first game, Davenport delivered her 900th career strikeout.

Game 1

The Warriors scored three early runs in the first inning on four hits. Mingin opened with a single to center field and advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring on Ridgell's RBI double to left center. Consecutive hits from Proepper and Chroniger brought in Ridgell and Proepper to make it 3-0.

The Marauders scored their first run in the bottom of the third on two hits.

ESU extended its lead to six runs after scoring four runs on three hits and an error in the top of the sixth. Master led off with a double to left center and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Marissa Perez drew a walk, advanced on Mingin's single to shortstop, and scored on Grow's RBI single to right field. Mingin and Grow then came around to score on a shortstop error.

The Marauders added a run in the sixth, but the Warriors closed the game with two more runs in the seventh, highlighted by RBIs from DeMito and Mingin.

Game 2

Chroniger delivered a solo shot to right center to put the Warriors on the board first, 1-0.

Millersville took the lead in the third inning with a two-run homer, 2-1. In the fourth, they extended their lead to 3-1, scoring another run on three hits.

ESU tied the game in the sixth when Mingin singled ahead of Ridgell's two-run homer. Millersville briefly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Teman hit a game-tying home run in the seventh, forcing extra innings. In the eighth, Chroniger sealed the win with a three-run homer, giving the Warriors a 7-4 victory.

The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, April 21, with a road game at Kutztown.
