KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University softball team split its series against Kutztown, falling 7-6 in game one before rallying for a 6-5 win in game two.
With the split, the Warriors move to 26-16 overall and 14-10 in conference play.
Notables
Tulana Mingin, Delaney Ridgell, and Megan Chroniger each totaled four hits, while Kinsley Proepper and Maddin Grow added three hits apiece. Katie Master, Chroniger, and Maddy Pritchard each homered.
Game 1
Kutztown scored the first three runs of the game, scoring a run in the first inning before using a two-run homer in the third to go up 3-0.
The Warriors got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring six runs on six hits. Mingin and Grow both singled, before Ridgell's RBI single to right field scored Mingin, 3-1. Proepper followed with a two-RBI single to tie the game, scoring Grow and Ridgell. Chroniger singled and advanced to second on the throw, then came around to score on Master's three-run homerun as the Warriors took a 6-3 lead.
The Golden Bears responded in the bottom of the inning with two, two-run homers to retake the lead, 7-6.
Game 2
ESU struck first in the second inning, hitting two homeruns to take a 3-0 lead. Chroniger opened the inning with a solo shot, and after Master reached on an error, Pritchard followed with a two-run homer to right field.
Kutztown tied the game in the third with three runs and took a 5-3 lead in the fifth.
The Warriors cut the deficit to one in the top of the fifth on Chroniger's RBI double, scoring Grow. ESU regained the lead in the sixth, scoring two runs on three hits. With the bases loaded, Ridgell delivered a two-RBI double to left field, scoring Mingin and Georgia Tym to make it 6-5.
Sarah Davenport closed out the final two innings, striking out four.
