STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The No. 2 East Stroudsburg University softball team defeated No. 7 Fairmont State, 6-0, in an elimination game Friday afternoon to remain alive in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
Tulana Mingin, Megan Chroniger, Katie Master, and Karlye Teman each collected two hits for the Warriors, while Kaitlynn Colangelo, Maddy Pritchard, and Gigi DeMito added one hit apiece. Teman, DeMito, and Brennan Corr each drove in runs.
Sarah Davenport earned the win in the circle, improving to 25-11 on the season after striking out seven batters.
Despite having two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Warriors mounted a four-run rally on four hits and two errors. Teman singled to left field and later scored on a Fairmont State error following Pritchard's single to left field, giving ESU a 1-0 lead. DeMito followed with an RBI single to right field to score Pritchard and extend the lead to 2-0.
Corr entered as a pinch runner for DeMito and advanced to second after Georgia Tym drew a walk. Mingin then singled to left field to load the bases. Maddin Grow reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Corr and Tym to score and push the advantage to 4-0.
ESU added two more runs in the fifth inning. Master and Colangelo opened with back-to-back singles before a wild pitch advanced Master and pinch runner Macy Crum. Teman delivered an RBI single through the right side to score Master and move Crum to third. Crum later crossed the plate on Corr's groundout to shortstop, sealing the 6-0 victory.
