Warriors Drop Close Decision against Scranton, 24-15; ESU Wins Four Bouts against Royals

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team dropped a 24-15 decision on Wednesday night against the Scranton Royals. The Warriors recorded four victories in the dual against the Royals.
 
ESU (0-2) would get victories at 133, 157, 174, and 197 pounds as freshmen Aaron Acosta and Nick Recine each tallied their first career dual victories for the Warriors.
 
Scranton opened the match with a 6-0 advantage as the Warriors forfeited the 125-pound bout. Acosta followed with a 9-0 major decision victory for ESU to trim the deficit to 6-4.
 
The Royals recorded back-to-back victories at 141 and 149 pounds to take a 12-4 advantage in the dual. Anthony Clarizio and Dante Simenti both recorded wins via decisions for Scranton.
 
Junior Marquan Payne helped the Warriors to trim the deficit once again with a 12-5 decision at 157 pounds against Scranton's Kyle Shafer.
 
Trailing 16-7 in the dual, redshirt senior Mike Raccioppi tallied an 18-4 major decision victory at 174 pounds against William Laughlin to improve to 2-0 on the season in duals.
 
ESU pulled to within five points of Scranton in the dual as Recine delivered a 12-4 major decision at 197 pounds to make it 20-15. The Royals secured the 24-15 dual victory with a 10-2 major decision victory from Keegan Connelly at 285 pounds.  
 
The Warriors head to Hackettstown, New Jersey on December 8 to participate in the Centenary Open. ESU opens the 2020 portion of its season on January 5 at the Williams Open in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The Warriors return to dual action against Muhlenberg on January 14 beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
