ESU Adds Women's Wrestling
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling interim head coach
Anibal Nieves announced Monday that the Warriors have signed Josselinne Campos to a National Letter of Intent.
Campos, a native of Kingston, N.Y., will have two years of eligibility for the Warriors after transferring from Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Mass. She was named a National Collegiate Wrestling Association All-American in 2017. Campos competed at 130 pounds for STCC under head coach Asnage Castelly.
"I am very excited to welcome Josselinne as our first women's wrestler at ESU", noted Nieves. "I was fortunate to have trained Josselinne for a year at STCC before coming to ESU. She is a very talented wrestler with great work ethics, leadership skills, and a passion for our sport of wrestling."
A member of the New York Athletic Club, Campos has also had the opportunity to wrestle at the international level as a member of the Guatemalan national team. She attended Kingston High School, where she wrestled for head coach Phil Brown.
Women's wrestling will be ESU's 21st varsity sport when it begins in fall 2019 and is governed by the Women's College Wrestling Association. While not recognized as an NCAA intercollegiate sport, the WCWA is in the process of pursuing emerging sport status from the NCAA.
The WCWA recognizes 101, 109, 116, 123, 130, 136, 143, 155, 170, and 191-pound weight classes. Currently, there are 48 varsity women's wrestling programs at the collegiate level across the United States and Canada.
