ESU Adds Women's Wrestling
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling interim head coach
Anibal Nieves announced Monday that the Warriors have signed Caira Jaynes to a Letter of Commitment.
Jaynes, a native of Burlington, NJ, is currently attending Burlington City High School. She has been trained by Leigh Jaynes, who is a world bronze medalist.
"I am happy to announce Caira as the third member of our program", noted Nieves. "She will bring talent from training with her Aunt, who has competed on the national level. Caira will also add depth in the higher weight classes and to the vision that we are trying to create at ESU."
She is a member of the Total Force Wrestling Club, which is a year-round wrestling school and training facility for boys and girls that allows them to achieve their goals in the sport.
Jaynes intends to study criminal justice at ESU and will join the school's Army ROTC program. She will wrestle at 191 pounds for the Warriors.
Women's wrestling will be ESU's 21st varsity sport when it begins in fall 2019 and is governed by the Women's College Wrestling Association. While not recognized as an NCAA intercollegiate sport, the WCWA is in the process of pursuing emerging sport status from the NCAA.
The WCWA recognizes 101, 109, 116, 123, 130, 136, 143, 155, 170, and 191-pound weight classes. Currently, there are 48 varsity women's wrestling programs at the collegiate level across the United States and Canada.
