Three Warriors Claim Individual Titles at Williams Open

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team recorded seven top-four finishes on Sunday at the Williams Open hosted by Williams College. The Warriors were paced by redshirt senior Mike Raccioppi, who claimed the 174-pound title.
 
The Warriors finished second as a team with 19 pins on the day in a time of 55:55, while Castleton University recorded 21 pins with a time of 57:10. Junior Marquan Payne finished third individually for the Warriors with three pins totaling 9:06. Raccioppi also tallied three pins in a time of 12:32.
 
Raccioppi would notch a 10-8 decision against Chance Lapier from Castleton in the championship bout en route to claiming the title for ESU at 174 pounds. Raccioppi entered the tournament as the No. 1 overall ranked wrestler in the latest NWCA Division II and NCAA Super Region I rankings.
 
Payne advanced to the title bout at 157 pounds for the Warriors before dropping a 10-2 major decision against Ryan Monteiro from Western New England University. Junior Nick Conetta claimed the 133-pound championship after needing just 50 seconds to pin Nick Calderone from Western New England.
 
Freshman Matthew Rosa captured the other individual title for ESU as he finished first at 141 pounds. Rosa used a 14-8 decision against Marco Mercado from Springfield Tech to pace his weight class.
 
At 149 pounds, senior Pierre Liciaga won his third-place bout for the Warriors via a 5-3 decision over Ryan Burbacher from SUNY Cortland. Freshman Clayton Green delivered a fourth-place finish at 197 pounds for ESU as he would come up short via an 11-4 decision against Dylan Millson of Williams in the third-place bout.
 
Freshman Nick Nittoli advanced to the championship bout at 285 pounds for ESU and continued his string of strong performances in tournament action for the Warriors this season. Nittoli would fall on the wrong side of a 9-5 decision against Joseph Galusha from Castleton.
 
The Warriors return to dual action on January 14 against Muhlenberg beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors will welcome back wrestling alumni for their contest against the Mules.
