Women’s Wrestling Ranked No. 15; Tatyana Ortiz Ranked Individually in NWCA Preseason Poll

Ortiz was the program’s first All-American during the 2019-20 season

MANHEIM. Pa. -- The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced on Monday afternoon that the East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team is ranked No. 15 in the annual NWCA Division II Women's Wrestling Preseason Poll. Additionally, Warrior junior Tatyana Ortiz is ranked eighth in the 109 lbs. preseason poll.

In 2019-20, the Warriors posted a 1-4 dual record, wit ha 32-6 victory over Springfield Tech in its first ever dual meet win in program history. As a team, ESU finished 17th in the team standings at the Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships at Adrian College.

Ortiz, ESU's first-ever All-American in women's wrestling, posted a 10-5 overall record with a perfect 4-0 in dual matches in the program's inaugural season in 2019-20. Ortiz finished her first season in the Poconos by winning seven of her final nine matches at the end of the season for a fourth-place finish at the national meet.

ESU did not compete during the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Warriors open the season on Wed., Nov. 3 against Elmira in the program's first-ever dual meet at Koehler Fieldhouse. The meet is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
