Softball Set to Face West Liberty Wednesday in First Round of Atlantic Regional

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University softball team will play their first NCAA Tournament game since 2007 on Wednesday in the Atlantic Regional first round against fifth-seed West Liberty at 10 a.m. from Kutztown's North Campus Field.

The winner of the contest will advance to face the host and one-seeded Kutztown on Thursday, May 20 at 10 a.m. The losing team will play again on Wednesday at 3 p.m. versus the loser of third-seed West Chester (30-14) and sixth-seed Claflin (8-1).

This Warriors put forth one of the most successful campaigns in program history this year as they recorded 26 wins (third most all-time) and 17 conference victories which is the most in a single-season. ESU has earned 10 come-from-behind victories and currently ranks fourth in all of Division II with 116 stolen bases.

Last week, Marah Range was named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and collected first-team honors, while Reilly Vicendese and Morgan Walsh were selected to the PSAC East second-team. Range and Vicendese were also honored on the NFCA Division II Atlantic Region Second Team.

Range became the first-ever pitcher in program history to be named pitcher of the year, garner first-team all-conference honors and be selected to an all-region team.

Vicenendese put together one of the most impressive debuts in program history as she broke the freshman records in hits (57), total bases (68), runs (33) and RBIs (29). The Ellicott City, Md. led the Warriors in hits, runs, RBIs and assists (73) and posted a .984 fielding percentage after committing just two errors.
  
Wednesday will be the sixth meeting between the teams and the first time since 2018. The Hilltoppers hold the advantage in the all-time series at 4-1, having won the last three meetings. ESU's most recent victory game in 2011 at the Catawba Tournament in North Carolina.

West Liberty enters the tournament with a 25-15 record after claiming their second consecutive Mountain East Conference Tournament championship back on May 9.

Ticket pricing Session (daily ticket) - $10 per person, $5 child/student/senior Tournament Pass (all days/games) - $30 per person, $15 child/student/senior
 
Limited tickets will be available at the door. Capacity for the venue is set for 250 per game. All spectators must wear a face covering and abide by social distancing rules.
