GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Highlighted by first place performances from
Luke Ciampa and
Geovanni Lainez, as well as 11 other wrestlers earning top-four finishes, the East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team closed out the calendar year with a dominate showing at the Nassau Open on Sunday inside the Lions' Main Gym.
Notables
- Geovanni Lainez and Josh Jasionowicz claimed the top two spots at 125 pounds as the duo combined to go 6-0 against the competition. Lainez earned first place with back-to-back falls and a medical forfeit from Jasionowicz in the finals.
- Sophomore Luke Ciampa earned the title at 165 pounds with a fall and major decision in his first two matches before a 6-0 decision against Darrale Barrett (Delaware Valley) in the finals
- At 133 pounds, Kelvin Rodriguez-Molina earned a third place finish using a pair of decisions and major decisions which included a 12-2 performance against Jeff Molina (Unattached) in the sophomore's last match of the day
- After dropping his opening match, Jack Dardia battled his way back with four straight victories to take third place at 141 pounds. Dardia used a technical fall against Ahmed Sabir (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) and pin versus Artem Reichert (Delaware Valley) to get back on track.
- With five wrestlers competing at 149 pounds, the Warriors recorded second, third and fourth place finishes. Jacob Remolina was the runner-up as the junior went 3-0 with a major decision and pin before falling to Kris Ketchum (Unattached) in the finals. After dropping his semifinal match, Eric Falleni responded with a major decision over Quincy Howard (Nassau Community College) and a 5-2 decision over teammate Brian Lombardi (4th place) in the third place match.
- Bryce Parenti earned second place at 157 pounds, cruising through his first three bouts with a fall over Luca Bracalenti (Merchant Marine) and a major decision against James Lunt (Unattached), before dropping the first place match to Adam Busiello (Unattached)
- The Warriors rounded out their podium finishes with Josh Leidig and Davis Lee taking second and third place respectively at 184 pounds. Leidig was 3-0, which included a 3-2 decision over Lee in the semifinals, before falling in the finals to Ericson Velasquez (Hofstra University). Lee used a trio of pins, which included falls against Joseph LoPresti (LIU) and Jameson Shea (Nassau Community College) on his way to taking third.
