Eric Falleni earning first-place at 149 and four Warriors reaching the podium in total, the East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team posted a strong performance at the Bob Quade Cyclone Open, hosted by Centenary University inside the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center on Sunday.
Notables
- ESU's Eric Falleni and Troy Gentzel took first and second place at 149, combining for a 7-1 record and dominating the field. Ultimately, Falleni defeated his teammate Gentzel by a 14-2 major decision in the first-place match. Falleni posted a fall, back-to-back decision victories before the major decision in the championship.
- Joining Gentzel as a runner-up was Geovanni Lainez at 125. Lainez earned victories over Justin Gerkhard and a pin against Noah Tonsor to advance to the finals. Lainez was pinned by Jack Thode of Centenary in the finals match to earn second place.
- Matthew Richardson also earned a podium spot, earning third-place at 197. After an opening pin in the quarterfinals, the Boothwyn, Pa. native fell to eventual champion Gabriel Monroe in the semifinals. Richardson rallied in the consolation bracket with a pin over Eli Mack and a tight 5-4 decision victory over Kutztown's Tyler Fisher in the 3rd place match.
