EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University men's and women's track & field teams combined to have four student-athletes earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.
Cole Gorham was the only member on the men's squad to earn All-Region distinction as he posted a season-best mark of 15.78m (51-9 ¼) at Bucknell's Bison Open on February 5. With that throw Gorham set the freshman record and sits fifth all-time in program history. At his first PSAC Indoor Championships, Gorham took fourth in the shot put.
After breaking the school record in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 3.65m (11-11 ¾), Nickolina Annelli claimed All-Region honors. Annelli recorded the personal-best height during the PSAC Indoor Championships, where she finished fourth.
Elizabeth Makar was the only Warrior to garner All-Region honors in multiple events, earning hers in the shot put and weight throw. The freshman broke the school record in the shot put for three consecutive weeks from Jan. 22 through Feb. 5, ultimately finishing with a throw of 14.55 (47-9) at the DeSchriver Invitational. She finished as the runner-up in the event at the PSAC Championships and was fourth in the weight throw. Makar ranks fourth on ESU's top-10 in the weight throw (43-1 ¾) and holds the freshman records in both events.
On Saturday, Makar becomes the first thrower in women's program history to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships, as she secured the 16th and final spot in the shot put.
Madison Horahan was the final Warrior to claim All-Region honors as she notched a weight throw mark of 16.02m (52-6 ¾) on her way finishing fifth at the PSAC Indoor Championships. Horahan sits fifth on ESU's top-10 in the weight throw and is ninth in the shot put at 12.43m (40-9 ½).
