Baseball Edged by Felician, 5-3

STROUDSBURG – Despite leading by two runs headed into the ninth inning, the East Stroudsburg University suffered a 5-3 defeat to Felician in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Creekview Park.

The Warriors, who recorded six hits and nine walks on the day, drop to 26-13 overall while the Golden Falcons improve to 15-17.

Felician was trailing 3-1 headed into the final at-bats but not before producing four runs on three hits to take their first lead of the afternoon. The Warriors' bottom of the ninth inning started promising with back-to-back hit by pitches but were then retired in order without a scoring threat.

ESU starter Alec Snyder was handed the no-decision despite firing a career-high 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six. The Warriors bullpen combined to let up four hits, two walks and four runs over the final 2.1 innings.

Offensively, the Warriors left 14 runners on base and were paced by Anthony Torreullas, who finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Recording RBI on the day was Jack Rothenhausler, Tommy Dunleavy and Tim Haverstick.

Notables

- Brainy Rojas remained at fifth all-time for career runs by collecting his 148th and is second in program history for stolen bases with 75.

- Ben Piripavel and Brock Kauffman each stretched their on-base streaks to a team-high 16 games

- The Warriors swiped four stolen bases to push their season total to 110, which ranks second in the PSAC and seventh in all of NCAA Division II

- Head Coach John Kochmansky moves towards his 400th of his career win as he sits at No. 395

How it Happened

Despite not recording a hit in the bottom of the third inning, the Warriors took a 2-0 lead as four walks led to the pair of runs. With the bases loaded, Rothenhausler worked a free pass to plate Rojas and Dunleavy followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Piripavel.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Warriors added a run to extend their advantage to 3-0. Dunleavy worked a walk, stole second and then came around to score as ESU executed a well timed hit and run with Haverstick on a single through the left side.

Felician scored their first run of the game with two outs in the top of the seventh inning as Colby Johnson delivered a single up the middle to make the score 3-1.

In their final at-bats, the Golden Falcons grabbed their first lead of the afternoon as three hits led to four runs which made the score 5-3 in favor of Felician. Edwin Tavarez put the Golden Falcons ahead on a bases clearing double that went off the top of the center field fence.

ESU got their first two batters aboard to begin the bottom of the ninth inning but were retired in order to limit any scoring threat from the Warriors.
