Warriors Record Six Additional PSAC Marks at Lehigh; 4x400m Squad Takes Third at Penn Relays

BETHLEHEM & PHILADELPHIA – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team had six different individuals earn PSAC automatic qualifying marks on Saturday at Lehigh's Carol & John Covert Classic from the Goodman Track and Field Complex.

Austin Nice (100m), Zephyr Crestwell (400m), Brian McGarrity (1500m), Luke Valdevit (1500m), Nasir Kyle (400m Hurdles) and Daryn Blackwell (discus) each met conference qualifying standards ahead of the PSAC Outdoor Championships on May 12-14.

Returning to Franklin Field for the finals of the 4x400m at the 126th Penn Relays, the relay team of Sean Roberts, Ryan Ditty, Zandrew Bowe and Tyler Boone clocked the seventh-best time in school history at 3:15.92 on their way to finishing third.

Running Highlights

Valdevit notched his third conference qualifying time on his way to a seventh place finish in the 1500m at 4:03.74 and McGarrity recorded his first PSAC mark of the outdoor season at 4:04.23 while taking ninth place. Evan Wooby was 15th as he also ran a personal-best time of 4:10.52.

On his way to a fifth place finish in the 800m, Valdevit clocked a time of 2:01.10 running in the fourth heat.

The Warriors had four top-10 finishes in the 110m hurdles, led by Ivan Hicks in fifth with a personal-best time of 15.33 and Daniel Daley in sixth at 15.46. Kyle (8th – 16.05) and Eric Krzyzaniak (9th – 16.14) rounded out the finishers for ESU.

In the 400m, Crestwell took third with a conference time of 50.23 and Trey Boyd was in fifth place after clocking a time of 50.97, both were personal-best performances.

Raul Esteves earned the top spot in the 100m after finishing in 10.91 and Nice followed in fourth place at a PSAC mark of 11.09, both were season-best times for the two Warriors. In the 200m, Esteves was the runner-up with a time of 22.07 and Nice took 11th after crossing the line in 23.50.

Caleb Carney continues to impress in the 400m hurdles as the sophomore earned a first place finish after clocking a personal-best time of 55.23. Kyle was sixth with the exact time needed for the conference championships at 58.00 and Liam Beifus took ninth with a 59.46.

Field Highlights

In the pole vault, Krzyzaniak took 11th after clearing the bar at a season-best height of 3.45m (11-3 ¾).

Freshman Aaron Sanchez paced the Warriors in the long jump with an eighth place finish as he recorded a personal-best leap of 6.05m (19-10 ¼) and Daley was in 11th at 5.86m (19-2 ¾).

After competing on the track, Hicks turned his attention to the sand pit where he notched a fourth place finish in the triple jump after recording a personal-best mark of 13.62m (44-8 ¼).

Romanley Turnier led ESU in the high jump, finishing in a tie for seventh after leaping over the bar at a height of 1.85m (6-0 ¾).

In the shot put, William Mattei earned a runner-up finish after recording a personal-best mark of 14.53m (47-8).

The Warriors had a pair of top-five finishers in the discus, led by Isaac Almoney in third at 45.41m (149-0) while Blackwell took fifth with a conference qualifying and personal-best mark of 45.04m (147-9).

The Warriors turn their attention to the three-day PSAC Outdoor Championships running from May 12 through May 14 at Millersville.
