SLIPPERY ROCK –The East Stroudsburg University baseball team lost to Mercyhurst, 3-1, on day two of the 2022 PSAC Tournament at Jack Critchfield Park.
Despite the loss, the Warriors' (35-16) PSAC hopes are still alive as the tournament is double elimination beginning today. ESU will now play Slippery Rock in an elimination game coming up at 6 p.m.
After an offensive explosion last night, the Warriors were limited to one run in the first inning and finished with six hits. Anthony Torreullas put ESU ahead 1-0 on a sacrifice fly before the Lakers scored three runs, using a pair of home runs to earn the victory.
Brainy Rojas, Brock Kauffman, CJ Peechatka, Jack Rothenhausler, Tim Haverstick and Jeremy Piatkiewicz all had one hit a piece.
Tommy Reisinger (6-4) took the loss on the mound after allowing three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three in 6.1 innings. Nate Fiala, Jack Nielsen and JP Nolan held the Lakers without a hit the rest of the way.

- Peechatka reached base for a team-high 23rd straight game with a single
- Rojas scored the 155th run of his career to remain at fourth all-time in program history and still ranks second for stolen bases with 77
- Kauffman recorded his 215th career hit to remain at second all-time in school history and is 10 from breaking the school record of 224, set by Jacob DeBoer (2004-07)
- ESU stole three bags on the afternoon to push their season total to 131, which ranks second in the PSAC and sixth in all of NCAA Division II
- The Warriors move to 15-17 all-time in the PSAC Tournament and 3-6 versus the Lakers
How it Happened
The Warriors picked back up right where they left off last night by taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning despite recording one hit. With one out and the bases loaded, Torreullas delivered a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Rojas, who led off the frame with a single.
Mercyhurst evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third as Jack Elliott launched a solo home run with two outs in the inning.
Then with two outs in the home half of the seventh inning, John Susnik ultimately produced the game-winning run on a two-run blast to left field to put the Lakers in front 3-1.
