Baseball Selected to NCAA Division II Tournament for First Time Since 2016

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University Warriors were selected to compete in the 2022 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships, punching its first trip the NCAA Tournament since 2016 and for the fifth time in school history, announced on Sunday night.

The Warriors (37-17), who set the program's longest win-streak at 15 games this season, are the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Regional and will play No. 3 Gannon in the opening round on Thursday at 11 a.m.

West Chester is the No. 1 seed and will serve as one the hosts for the Atlantic Regional, along side No. 2 seed Millersville.

ESU will make its fourth NCAA trip under 15th-year head coach John Kochmanksy and previously advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1985, 2011, 2013 and 2016.

The Warriors had five All-PSAC East selections, including Jack Rothenhausler being named the Freshman of the Year. Earning sports on the first team were redshirt senior 3B Brock Kauffman, redshirt sophomore OF Ben Piripavel, redshirt sophomore RHP Brent Francisco and graduate student RHPChase Nowak. Graduate student CJ Peechatka was named to the second team.

On Saturday, the Warriors captured the third runner-up finish in program history at the PSAC Tournament. The Warriors staved off elimination games against Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst before ultimately falling to Millersville.

ESU holds a 5-8 mark in the NCAA Tournament and are 5-6 under Kochmansky after going 2-2 back in 2016.

ESU is 4-1 all-time against Gannon and most recently eliminated the Golden Knights from the PSAC Tournament with a 11-3 victory on May 12.
