BLOOMSBURG – Returning to the mat for the first time in 2023, the East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team dropped a pair of duals to Bloomsburg and King's on Wednesday evening inside Nelson Field House.
The Huskies defeated ESU, 44-3, while the Monarchs edged the Warriors, 17-16.
With the pair of losses, the Warriors fell to 3-4 in duals while Bloomsburg moved to 2-7 and King's went to 3-1.
Notables
- The Warriors raced out to a 6-0 lead over King's as Bryce Parenti (157 pounds) and Sergio Cespedes (165 pounds) each earned a decision at their respective weight classes
- After the Monarchs took a 8-6 advantage in the match, sophomore Ajay Hiller produced an 8-4 decision over Rich Fronhieser at 197 pounds to put ESU back in front, 9-8
- King's grinded out a pair of decisions at 285 and 125 to move back ahead 14-9, but making his ESU debut, junior Cameron Enriquez had a 13-5 major decision to get the Warriors back within one at 14-13.
- With the Monarchs leading 17-13 moving into the final bout, junior Eric Falleni produced an 8-2 decision versus Cameron Leslie, leaving the Warriors one point shy of tying the match
- Against Bloomsburg, Jack Spahn earned a 7-2 decision in the opening bout over Christian Fritz at 157 pounds, but the Huskies went on to defeat the Warriors in the remaining matches
