Men’s Wrestling Drops Hard-Fought PSAC Dual to #23 Millersville

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team went back-and-forth with #23 Millersville, but the Marauders ultimately came out on top, 23-19, in a hard-fought PSAC dual on Thursday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors dropped their second straight dual, falling to 2-2 on the year and 0-2 in the conference while the Marauders moved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC.

Notables
  • With the dual starting at 165, Luke Ciampa made quick work of Millersville's Tyler Stanton as the junior produced a 19-2 technical fall to put the Warriors ahead 5-0. Ciampa improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in duals for the season while moving to 43-14 overall and 13-4 in duals for his career.
  • After back-to-back victories put the Marauders in front 10-5, Ajay Hiller gritted out a 6-2 decision at 197 over Millersville's Bruce Vaughn with the help of take downs in the first and third periods to cut ESU's deficit to 10-8. Hiller moved to 5-3 on the year and 3-1 in duals pushing his career record to 29-22 and 12-11.
  • Layton Schmick continued to impress as the freshman grinded out a 3-2 sudden victory at 285 in the second overtime period against Millersville's Bishop McCoy to regain the lead for the Warriors at 11-10. The Carlisle native bounced back following his first career loss to improve to 7-1 on the season and 3-1 in duals.
  • Millersville put the dual out of reach with three straight victories from 125 to 141, making the score 23-10, but the Warriors wrapped up the match strong with consecutive wins at 149 and 157. Senior Jacob Remolina (149) pinned Collin Higgins in 1:40 to push his record to 7-2 overall in 2023-24 and 2-1 in duals. Junior Jack Spahn produced a 4-2 decision over Millersville at 157 with the help of a take down in the third period to make the final score 23-19.
  • ESU lost one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct following the 125 bout
