DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University men's soccer assistant coach and ESU alumnus Shaquille Stephenson '17 has been named the head men's soccer coach at Delaware Valley University, the school announced earlier this week.
Stephenson spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach for ESU, helping guide the Warriors alongside ESU head coach Rob Berkowitz to a 35-30-9 record during that time. In that span, Stephenson coached 20 All-PSAC selections.
"I would like to thank coach Rob Berkowitz for his mentorship and guidance during the past five years at East Stroudsburg, along with ESU Director of Athletics, Dr. Allen Snook, and each and every member and supporter of the ESU Warrior Athletics community," mentioned Stephenson in Delaware Valley's release,
As a student-athlete, Stephenson appeared in 66 games in the Red and Black, making 47 starts at back. He helped the Warriors earn its first PSAC title in 10 seasons in 2017. He helped the defensive unit allow just 17 goals in 19 games in the conference championship campaign. He totaled three goals four assists for 10 points offensively.
"Congratulations to Shaquille on his new position at Delaware Valley University," said Berkowitz on Stephenson's new position. "He will be greatly missed, but we appreciate his contributions to the men's soccer program as both a player and a coach. We will wish him the best and know he will take Delaware Valley to new heights."
A native of St. Ann, Jamaica, he looks to elevate the Aggies' program, who posted a 6-9 record as a member of the MAC Freedom conference a season ago.
Stephenson graduated with a bachelor's degree in public health in 2017 and a master's degree in management in leadership in 2020.
He joins Muhammadou Kaba (Delaware Valley men's basketball) as recent Warrior alumni to be named head coaches at DelVal.
